What Is A Blog?

December 27, 2008

In it’s simplest terms, a blog is a web journal.  The term ‘blog’ actually comes from the combination of two words: web and log.  Think of it as a diary that can be either private, or open to the world.  A blog usually runs in reverse-chronological order, is updated with news, photos, video, links, and journal entries about any number of given subjects, and often-times allows the reader to engage with the blog writer by leaving feedback through comments.  Understand?

December 15, 2008

Adventure Bay Media has added another new blog to the Adventure Bay Media team.  Headkickmania brings the pulse-pounding, head-kicking excitement of MMA/kickboxing action.  I know most of you don’t live under a rock–or even if you do, you have probably heard the millipedes talking about the UFC.  Mixed Martial Arts fighting has become the rage of the combat world.  Two fighters, one cage, almost anything goes.

Current Discussion: Why Do We Blog Adventure?

December 11, 2008

This is an interesting topic that should spark many of us to think.  Each of us have our own personal reasons for blogging.  Some of us want to share our experiences with other people, some of us want to influence people to get out and experience life, and still others would just like an interesting record of what they have done and achieved.

Alfresco Bum Joins Adventure Bay Media

December 2, 2008

Adventure Bay Media is excited to announce the launch of the Alfresco Bum blog.  Here is some of what we can look forward to seeing at the Alfresco Bum blog:

Why Alfresco Bum?  Well, over the years I have thrown around many different classifications pertaining to various forms of recreation.  Ski bum.  Climber.  Paddler.  Surfer.  Backpacker.  Guy who lives in his truck.  But truth be told, I have never purely been any one of these.  Of course I am a skier when I’m skiing, and a backpacker while I am out on trail, but very rarely have I ever given all of my time to one discipline.  I am what you might say, a collector of hobbies.  I do consider myself to be very proficient in many arenas, mostly because I have shared time with many activities.  What these activities do have in common, though, is the outside world.  I prefer to be out rather than in.  I am a fresh-air junkie, or, an Alfresco Bum.

Current Discussion: What is Important When Starting A New Blog?

December 2, 2008

Adventure Bay Media is a new blogging network.  Being a new network carries the problem of having new blogs.  Some of us have blogged over an extended period of time.  Others have not.  What are some of the ways that a new blog can receive a successful start?  What are some of the tricks that you may use to garner a readership and expand your audience?

Adventure Bay Gear Deal of the Day:  Garmin Rino 130 GPS Two-Way Radio

There can never be enough said about the importance of good communications in the wild.  GPS units and Personal Locator Beacons are now the norm and with the prices dropping on the technology, many more of us can afford to buy that added safety feature with the latest in technological adventages.  The Garmin Rino 130 GPS Two-Way Radio is definitely one of the better ways to go.  This handheld GPS unit offers many of the functions of more expensive units, yet is priced unbeleivably low.  This sucker is even waterproof!  The Garmin Rino 130 GPS radio has built in GPS (of course), a built in barometric altimeter, electronic compass, NOAA weather radio, and a comprehensive voice scrambler.  If you don’t think a system like this could come in handy for you, go read the Hiker Hell blog.  He gives a few reasons a day why everyone should own one of these added safety measures.

The Garmin Rino 130 GPS Two-Way Radio is currently on sale at Al’s Sports.com.  Not only do you save an additional $50 off the price of this radio, but if you order one now, you can also receive free shipping!

TAKE ME TO THE DEAL!

P.S.  If you make a purchase through one of our ‘Adventure Bay Gear Deal of the Day’ specials, try out the gear, take some notes, then send us the review.  The first person to make the purchase that sends us a quick note or comment, will have their review published on Adventure Bay Media’s homepage.  This is a great opportunity for all of you adventurers looking to break into the gear review, outdoor writing, or adventure sectors.  You will receive a byline and a link back to a site of your choice.  Buy it, review it, get it published, then take the writing credit and start a new career!
